Job Description

Overview

Urban Wildlife Research Project (UWRP) is seeking a passionate, ecologically-minded volunteer for a pivotal role within our team. We are a close-knit, informal group dedicated to wildlife conservation in urban areas. If you are a self-starter eager to contribute to the world of urban wildlife, consider joining us.

Open Position

Executive Director (ED) / Board Chairperson

The ED serves as the intermediary between the board of directors and the president. This is a sensitive executive position. The ED establishes the board agenda and collaborates with project leaders; they may initiate their own projects within UWRP. The board chair presides at board meetings (biweekly to monthly) and is responsible for notifying the team of upcoming meetings and gathering items for the agenda. The chair holds other powers and duties as prescribed by the board of directors or the president. In the absence or disability of the president, the board chair performs the duties of the president.

Time commitment: See below.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and manage board agendas; coordinate with project leaders as needed.
  • Preside over board meetings and communicate meeting details to the team.
  • Oversee governance duties and support the president as required; may initiate or supervise projects within UWRP.

About You

  • Passionate about ecology and wildlife conservation; solid understanding of ecological principles and commitment to wildlife protection.
  • Proactive and independent; able to move projects forward autonomously and welcome diverse perspectives.
  • Excellent communicator; able to convey messages clearly for fundraising and outreach.
  • Availability to dedicate approximately 5-7 hours per month to plan, draft, and implement materials related to the role.
  • Remote work ready; board meetings are held via Zoom. Location is not a barrier.

Why Volunteer with Us?

By joining UWRP, you contribute to documenting wildlife behavior, protecting critical habitats, and fostering coexistence between humans and wildlife. Your work will support conservation efforts and public education. Active participation in board meetings and collaboration with team members is expected.

How to Apply

Please email your resume along with at least three references who know your past achievements and a brief paragraph explaining why you are passionate about wildlife conservation and how you can contribute to UWRP in the role you are applying for.

Interested candidates should be ready to participate actively in board meetings and work with the team to champion conservation efforts. For more information, visit our website at urbanwildliferesearchproject.org or contact us at urbanwildliferesearchproject@gmail.com.

Note: This is a volunteer opportunity provided by VolunteerMatch, in partnership with LinkedIn for Good.
