Job Details
- Responsible for basic nursing duties including execution of physician orders, operation of pill call and sick call, assisting physicians in examinations and treatments, and performing technical/clinical procedures within the scope of LPN license.
- Apply appropriate nursing skills in care and treatment of inmates/residents.
- Attend sick call with physician, prepare list of inmates/residents to be examined, and prepare examining room and equipment.
- Operate pill call, dispense medication, and document as required by policies and procedures.
- Control medication, syringes, medical supplies, and equipment; perform inventory as required.
- Perform emergency procedures as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work area.
- Document and report activities according to established policies and procedures including medical file documentation.
Job Requirements
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license valid in New Mexico.
Schedule Information
- Work includes rotating shifts and physically checking doors, windows, and other areas to verify security.
Additional Details
- Assist supervisor with evaluating medical services to prevent inappropriate duplication.
- Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records.
- Closely monitor potential catastrophic illnesses.
- May audit pharmacy use for formulary adherence and comply with pharmacy laws.
- Observe and record inmate/resident behavior.
- Inspect medical unit for contraband; securely store or dispose of supplies and equipment.
- Prepare and maintain various records, reports, and logs; review reports produced on shifts.
- Read, comprehend, and interpret medical and technical procedures, regulations, and legal documents.
- Respond to lawsuits via corporate counsel; attend court hearings as necessary; conduct chart research.
- Communicate effectively with administration, staff, inmates/residents, visitors, and the public, especially in sensitive situations.
- Help evaluate and recommend physical safety requirements for a safe working environment.
- Facilitate accreditation processes (NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO) by providing efficient and appropriate medical services.
- Prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports; take appropriate action in serious incidents and emergencies.
- Escort or coordinate movement of inmates/residents for medical treatment.
- Assist in investigations and inquiries; gather information and evidence; exercise judgment in disciplinary recommendations.
- Engage in functions in confined areas including working rotating shifts and security checks.
- Be aware of potential verbal abuse in hostile environments.
- Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies, and disasters including basic emergency medical aid and evacuation.
- Take action to prevent or diffuse disruptive situations.
- Establish and maintain effective working relations and handle difficult interpersonal contacts.
