As a key member of the Security Operations Center (SOC), the Principal SOC Analyst serves as the first line of defense in WPS’s highly secure and regulatory‑compliant environment. This senior analyst brings advanced cybersecurity expertise to lead and mentor other SOC analysts, develop and optimize monitoring tools and procedures, and ensure clear, effective communication with auditors and business stakeholders. The role plays a critical part in guiding complex security initiatives, responding to incidents, and driving continuous improvement across SOC operations. Salary Range $125,000 ~ $160,000. The base pay may vary within the posted range based on your job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Work Location Employees are expected to live in Wisconsin and work in a hybrid schedule – 3 days a week onsite at the WPS headquarters (1717 W. Broadway, Madison, WI) and remote for the remaining days. Secondary remote work is available for approved states: Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin. Who This Opportunity Is For Enjoy leading security incident response by managing the end‑to‑end process. Have coordinated testing, simulations, and training exercises to ensure team readiness. Like to provide expert‑level guidance and mentorship to SOC analysts. Thrive when designing, implementing, and maintaining SOC monitoring solutions. Represent the SOC function in audits, vendor discussions, and cross‑functional meetings. Develop and maintain comprehensive SOC documentation such as SOPs, playbooks, and monitoring protocols. Serve in an on‑call capacity during security incidents to ensure timely escalation and resolution outside of regular business hours. Minimum Qualifications U.S. citizenship is required. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience. 7+ years of progressive cybersecurity experience, focusing on SOC activities in complex enterprise environments. Proficiency with SIEM platforms, log correlation, alert tuning, and threat‑detection strategy. Experience applying the MITRE ATT&CK framework and aligning operations with NIST, CMMC, and MAC‑ARS controls. Solid background in network security, cloud security (AWS, Azure), and AI/ML security principles for SOC automation. Knowledge of scripting languages (PowerShell, Python) and AI integration. Strong leadership, mentoring, and communication skills for engaging technical and non‑technical stakeholders. Experience in security policy development, technical documentation, and diagramming tools such as Visio or Lucidchart. Preferred Qualifications Experience working on federal contracts in a high‑security environment (CMMC or MAC‑ARS). Industry certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, or CISM.
