Position Description:

Coinme is seeking a Director of Payments Risk to architect and lead our next-generation fraud prevention strategy. This is your opportunity to shape the future of secure digital payments in one of the fastest-growing sectors in fintech. As our Director of Payments Risk, you'll be the guardian of trust in our ecosystem, protecting millions of transactions while enabling seamless customer experiences. You'll build and lead a world-class risk team, implement cutting-edge fraud detection technologies, and directly influence our company's growth trajectory.

Coinme is seeking an experienced Director of Payments Risk to lead our payments fraud risk and strategy function. In this crucial role, you will develop and implement a robust risk management framework to safeguard our company's payment operations against various threats.

What You'll Be Working On (Your Impact):
  • Payments Fraud Risk Strategy :
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive fraud risk management strategy
    • Monitor and enhance fraud detection and prevention mechanisms
  • Payments Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
    • Conduct risk assessments and implement strategies to address vulnerabilities.
    • Provide oversight and governance of the fraud risk management framework
  • Payments Fraud Prevention System Management
    • Own the management of the entire anti-fraud toolset, including the fraud prevention systems
    • Ensure systems are updated with the latest fraud intelligence and prevention rulesets and strategies
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Work with internal teams (engineering, legal, compliance, operations) and external stakeholders (regulators, financial institutions) to align fraud risk strategies
  • Monitoring and Reporting:
    • Establish KPIs and metrics to monitor fraud risk management effectiveness
    • Prepare regular, comprehensive reports for senior management
  • Incident Management:
    • Lead fraud incident response and develop incident response plans
    • Conduct post-incident analysis to improve future responses
  • Impact Analysis:
    • Assess the broader financial ecosystem impact of fraud risk strategies
    • Implement measures to mitigate adverse effects
What We're Looking For:
  • A bias for action, with a willingness to roll up your sleeves, dive into issues, and learn something new every day
  • Experience working in digital payments for a crypto exchange or onramp/offramp
  • Extensive experience working with and administering modern payment fraud prevention systems such as Sardine, Fortis, SEON, Sift, Kount, etc.
  • A "lean" approach to your work, and can efficiently manage multiple competing priorities
  • A customer-centric approach, with a desire to have a deep understanding of customer needs and creative solutions to help our customers
  • The ability to be flexible, take feedback, and grow in the face of challenges
  • Strong people leadership skills with the ability to inspire and develop teams

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management, or a related field.
  • Advanced degree or certifications (e.g., CFA, FRM, CFE) preferred
  • 8+ years in risk management, particularly in digital payments and fraud prevention within financial services or cryptocurrency
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with risk management tools and data analysis software
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • People management experience, preferably leading risk or fraud prevention teams
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities

  • Experience working in crypto
  • Experience working with the Sardine platform
