Summary

HR Green is seeking a Staff Structural Engineer to join our Transportation Structures team in Illinois. If you have a passion for structural engineering and want to work on impactful, community-focused projects, this is an exceptional opportunity.

You’ll collaborate with a team of planners and designers on structural solutions for municipal, regional, and state clients—helping shape infrastructure that supports today’s needs and tomorrow’s growth.

In this role, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality transportation structures, including bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and sign structures. You’ll engage in 3D modeling, plan development, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimating, all while managing multiple project assignments with the support of a highly collaborative team.

What You’ll Do…

  • Designing and drafting engineering plans for bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other transportation structures
  • Creating detailed structural drawings from sketches, notes, or verbal guidance with increasing independence as your skills grow
  • Performing structural computations and analyses using industry-leading software
  • Preparing and verifying quantity calculations and cost estimates
  • Participating in design meetings with internal teams and clients
  • Visiting sites with engineers or field technicians to understand conditions, evaluate structures, or support construction coordination
  • Working under the direction of licensed engineers to deliver work within established budgets and timelines
  • Reviewing your work—and assisting with reviews of CADD Technician work—for accuracy and completeness

What You Bring…

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience
  • EIT certification preferred
  • Proficiency with standard office software (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • General CADD experience required; MicroStation-based OpenBridge Designer or OpenRoads Designer preferred
  • Experience with 3D structural modeling is a plus

Compensation Range

$70,000.00 - $115,900.00

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in accordance with the Illinois Salary Transparency amendment to the Equal Pay Act of 2003. The final agreed-upon compensation is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, skills, prior work experience, competencies, and geographic work location. The total annual compensation package may consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate, after a qualifying period, in our performance and discretionary incentive bonus program(s).
